This community is strong with incredible assets! It is incredible to see how close all of the schools are to each other. I bike this area daily but never saw their proximity through this lens until drawing it. The human capital in this neighborhood is phenomenal, Rainier Beach which is thick with families is a place where you wouldn’t have to walk far to run into someone you know or someone you should know. I was challenged to see all these amazing buildings that could be used as community “sharing” grounds. I would love to learn how to connect all these different houses of faith so that youth and families could learn more about each others cultures and humanize their differences and not solely their familiarities. I’d love to encourage the community center to have more youth run and led activities. I often hear more rules set before youth as opposed to opportunities to showcase talents. It’d also be beneficial to allow youth to receive training from professionals in these different spheres, especially since so many of these churches, restaurants and organizations are grass-root and family run and owned, to develop positive relationships with the community and to discover their own strengths and weaknesses.
